English Art in Portugal presents, for the first time, a study of English works of art set in the historical context of the «special relationship»> which has existed between the two countries from Portugal’s founding to the present day. Since the middle ages Portugal and England have been allies through trade, diplomatic relations and several royal marriages. Cultural ties have been strong, and many works of art have been brought here by visitors, traders and settlers coming from England, and by Portuguese Ambassadors and collectors.
